Tera McKenzie Harlan

Jeremy and Brittany Harlan of Jonesboro have announced the birth of their first child, a daughter, on July 13, 2012. The baby weighed six pounds, 15 ounces, and has been named Tera McKenzie Harlan.

Grandparents are Terry and Sherry McLaughlin, Jeff and Tena Harland and Tesi Harlan, all of Jonesboro.

Great-grandparents are Roy and Louise Patton of Hoxie, Sharon Kay Gambill and Bobby and Saundria Warren, all of Jonesboro, Dwight and Linda Harlan of Little Rock, Beverly Tate of Springdale and Bill Talley of Bay.

Jett Heath Sanders

Jonathan and Kristi Sanders of Walnut Ridge have announced the birth of their first child, a son, born on July 20, 2012, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed six pounds, 10 ounces, and has been named Jett Heath Sanders.

Grandparents are Teresa Kain of Jonesboro, Mike and Lanae Kain of Paragould and the late Lora Green.

Great-grandparents are Monroe and Shirley Bunch.

Coraline Rhea Talbot

Bob and Felicia Talbot of Jonesboro have announced the birth of their first child, a daughter, born on June 26, 2012.

The baby weighed seven pounds, five ounces, and has been named Coraline Rhea Talbot.

Grandparents are Raymond and Debbie Snow of Walnut Ridge and Patti Talbot of Trumann and the late Robert Talbot.

Guy and Flossie Henderson of Trumann are the great-grandparents.

Weddings / Engagements

DeWitte ~ Johnson

Gethsemane Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge was the setting May 26, 2012, at 2 p.m. for the ceremony uniting Alyssa Leann Johnson and James David DeWitte in marriage.

The bride is the daughter of Ron and Pam Johnson of Walnut Ridge. She is the granddaughter of Linda Johnson of Black Rock, the late Donald Johnson and the late Chester and Kathleen Warnick.

She is a 2005 graduate of Hoxie High School and graduated from Williams Baptist College in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in family psychology. She is employed by Hays in Walnut Ridge.

The bridegroom is the son of Rick and Terrie DeWitte of Maynard. He is employed with Windmill Rice in Jonesboro.

The bride was given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father.

Jessica Sheffield of Key West, Fla., served as maid of honor and Paige Rogers of Jonesboro served as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Rachel Johnson of Jonesboro and Sara Crum of Paragould.

Flower girl was Lillian Johnson. Ashley DeWitte, daughter of the groom, of Kermin, Calif., presided at the bride's book.

Jon DeWitte of Hoxie served as best man. Groomsmen were Rick DeWitte of Ft. Bragg, N.C., Derek Johnson of Jonesboro and Mike Lowry of Penngrove, Calif.

Ring bearer was Matthew DeWitte. Ushers were Jake Hickman of Imboden, Thomas DeWitte and Ronnie DeWitte, both of Maynard.

A wedding reception was held in the Family Life Center following the wedding, and was catered by Mel Fender. The bride's parents hosted the reception.

Following a wedding trip to Kauai, Hawaii, they reside in Hoxie.

Obituaries

Opal Bridges Dunlap

Opal Bridges Dunlap, 97, of White Cloud, Mich., died July 21, 2012, at Lakeside Vista in Holland, Mich.

Born May 17, 1915, at Indian Bay, she was the daughter of Arlie and Ophelia Eula Frost Dry.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Vernon Bridges Sr. and Wes Dunlap; two sons, Kenneth Allison Bridges and William Vernon Bridges Jr.; three brothers; two sisters; two grandsons, Jody Bridges and Greg Bridges; and two great-grandchildren, Jarrod Allen Martinez and Cristy Rose Bridges.

Survivors include a son, Donald Elmo Bridges and wife Betty, Strawberry; two daughters, Barbara Barton and husband Frank, White Cloud, Mich., and Carolyn Prins and husband Ron, Holland, Mich.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral is Thursday at 11 a.m. at Cox Funeral Home with Marvin Reynolds and Daniel Bridges officiating. Burial will be in Strangers Home Cemetery at Alicia.

Visitation will be Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of the service.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Bridges, Jeb Bridges, Terry Owens, Josh Owens, Aaron Owens, Todd Prins and Allison Dry.

Lyle Guthrie

Lyle Guthrie, 45, of Pocahontas, passed away July 20, 2012, at the VA Hospital in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Born Aug. 2, 1966, he served in the U.S. Air Force for eight years. He was Legion Commander of Meeks-Johnston Post 6 and was Veteran Service Officer for Randolph County.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harold "Jiggs" Guthrie and Estel and Velda Baker.

Survivors include a daughter, Brittany Guthrie, Pocahontas; his father, Roger Guthrie and wife Donna, Pocahontas; his mother, Marilyn Guthrie, Pocahontas; a brother, Brent Guthrie and wife Kim, Pocahontas; his grandmother, Ualdean Davis, Imboden; and two nephews, Garret Guthrie and Gage Guthrie, both of Pocahontas.

Graveside service was Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Hope Cemetery in Imboden with Tommy Medley officiating. McNabb Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Members of Meeks-Johnston Post 6 served as honorary pallbearers.

Gary Lee Holder

Gary Lee Holder, age 68, of Simpson County, Ky., passed away July 6, 2012, at the Hospice Center of Bowling Green.

He was born April 14, 1944, in Walnut Ridge, to the late A.E. and Sarah Holder.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Shirley Joe Ann Holder; a son, Gary Jr. "Wink" and Wendy and Ruthanne, Northern Illinois; sisters, Anna Jones, Brookland, and Freda (Lee Don) Hamilton, Portia; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Will Henry, Illinois, Sherman, Dexter, Ed and Felix Holder, Earl and Raymond Chappel; and two sisters, Wilene Holder and Leola Beller, all of Arkansas.

There was no service. His body was donated to science.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Hospice Center of Southern Kentucky.

Kyleigh Alaska Mankey

Infant Kyleigh Alaska Mankey died July 21, 2012, in Little Rock.

Survivors include her mother, Misty Mankey, Walnut Ridge; a sister, Hailey Mankey Lamb, Walnut Ridge; her grandfather, Johnny Mankey, Walnut Ridge; and her grandmother, Joan Mankey, Trumann.

Graveside service is Friday at 11 a.m. at Coffeyville Cemtery under the direction of Jackson's Newport Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 at the funeral home.

Annice Scott

Annice Scott, 83, of Lorado, sister of Laveda Scott of Walnut Ridge, died July 23, 2012, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital. A celebration of her life will be held today at 10 a.m. at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Burial will be in Lorado Cemetery. Johnye Mae Sharp

Johnye Mae Sharp, 80, of Ravenden, died July 19, 2012, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born April 6, 1932, in Ravenden, she was the daughter of John and Lillie Preston Clary. She was a homemaker and a member of Friendship Methodist Church in Ravenden.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Sharp, whom she married in 1949; a sister, Ruby Clary Wells; and a brother-in-law, Clay Wells.

Survivors include six sons, Gary Sharp, Ronny Sharp, Glen Sharp, Harold Sharp, Howard Sharp and Kent Sharp, all of Ravenden.

Funeral was Monday at 11 a.m. at Cox Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge with John Stoll officiating. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery at Ravenden.

Maurice Leroy Staten

Maurice Leroy Staten, 82, of Flint, Mich., died July 9, 2012, at McLaren Hospital in Flint, of heart failure.

Born Jan. 7, 1930, in Walnut Ridge, he was the son of John and Lennie Staten. Family and friends thought of him as a kind and gentle man with a good sense of humor. He raised his family as an only parent.

He was a skilled carpenter, and one of his greatest joys was going to Mississippi to assist rebuilding a church following a hurricane.

He was preceded in death by a son, Maurice "Maury";three siblings, Nan Rice, Robert Staten and Jim Staten; and a grandson, Stephen.

Survivors include two daughters, Jerri Puizjada, California, and Judy Craft, Kentucky; four sisters, Mary Kozial, Oregon, Melba Damoth, Mont Rose, Mich., Christine Bowden, Pontiac, Mich., and Linda Crawford, Grand Blanc, Mich.; a brother, Carrol Staten, Knoxville, Tenn.; and five grandsons.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held July 17 in Flint, Mich., with Larry and Dennie Esterlens officiating.

Dorothy Loretta Woodson Taylor

Dorothy Loretta Woodson Taylor, 83, of Stanford, sister of Ira Cox of Walnut Ridge, died July 21 2012, in Walnut Ridge. A celebration of her life will be held today at 3 p.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel in Paragould. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Walcott. Memorials may be made to Stanford Baptist Church. William Teel Jr.

William Teel Jr., 93, of Walnut Ridge, died July 18, 2012, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born July 18, 1919, in Walnut Ridge, he was the son of William Sr. and Dollie Belle Baker Teel. He was a lifelong area farmer and was of the Baptist belief.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Knowles Ruby Oldham Teel, whom he married Jan. 22, 1940; two brothers, Fred Teel and Joe Teel; seven sisters, Ruby Weir, Ruth Holder, Lela Towell, Freda Watts, Charlene Stapleton, Opal Berry and Louise Starnes; and a son-in-law, Leon Woody.

Survivors include a son, Tony Teel and wife Linda, Walnut Ridge; a daughter, Kathy Woody, Walnut Ridge; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Funeral was Friday at 1 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Tony Teel, Heath Teel, Tyler Teel, Jordan Howard, Chance McLaughlin and David Davis. Honorary pallbearers were Jeremy McLaughlin, Gage McLaughlin, Jeremy Howard, Cody Howard, Trevor Teel and Patience Woody.

Darendia Ann Weekley

Darendia Ann Weekley, 59, of Black Rock, died July 14, 2012, at her home.

Born May 16, 1953, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Rynthell and Nancy Rice East. She lived in Palmdale, Calif., most of her life before returning to Lawrence County almost 10 years ago.

Survivors include a son, Richard Weekley and wife Kelly, Imboden; a daughter, Dawn Lowry and husband Mike, Crescent City, Calif.; a sister, Linda Burton and husband Jim, North Las Vegas, Nev.; and four granddaughters, Amanda Lowry, Gabby Lowry, Julie Lowry and Rachael Weekley.

Private services were under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home.
