School board filing closes
Two races have developed for school board positions in Lawrence County, according to County Clerk Tina Stowers.
The filing period for the Sept. 18 election ended Tuesday at noon with races slated for the Hoxie School Board position, as well as a position on the Sloan-Hendrix School Board.
David F. Dobbs and Felipe Baiza have filed for the Hoxie position, which was previously held by Marlyn Tate, who did not seek re-election.
Bill Davis and Robert T. Stallings will vie for Position 2 on the Sloan-Hendrix School Board. The position has one year left on an unexpired term that was left open when Joey Crawford resigned. Davis has been serving as an appointed member of the board.
Three incumbents have also filed for positions throughout the county and are unopposed.
They are: Hillcrest School District, Zone 5, David Scott Durham; Lawrence County School District, Ronald Ingram; and Sloan-Hendrix School District, Position 1, Preston Clark.
School Board positions have a five-year term.
The Lawrence County Election Commission will hold a drawing for ballot positions on Thursday at 1 p.m. in the County Clerk's Office. Candidates and the public are welcome to attend.
