COOL OFF IN POOL - Siblings (from left) Rocklyne, 10, Ashtin, eight, and Memory Sneed, six, beat the heat on Friday by swimming at the Walnut Ridge City Pool. Temperatures soared to 100 degrees, which set a record for the day in Walnut Ridge.

Fifth stretch of trail to be paved

Work on Lawrence County's Rails-to-Trails project will continue soon, thanks to an $80,000 grant from the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department.

Jones takes helm as
president of Williams

Dr. Thomas Jones began work on Monday as the new president of Williams Baptist College. Jones was selected in the spring to lead the four-year, liberal arts college at Walnut Ridge. He is the sixth president of WBC.

Lambert resigns from LHS

Terry Lambert recently resigned as president of Lawrence Health Services to pursue other interests, according to information released by LHS on Monday.

Airport employees receive
temporary cut in hours

Three full-time employees at the Walnut Ridge Regional Airport were temporarily cut back to part-time at Monday night's airport commission meeting. The economy and several weeks with no rain are big factors in the cuts.

School board filing closes

Two races have developed for school board positions in Lawrence County, according to County Clerk Tina Stowers.
