NAMED FARM FAMILY - Mitch and Teresa Baltz (seated) of Powhatan have been named as the 2012 Farm Family of the Year for Lawrence County. With them are their children and grandchildren (left side, from back) Aaron and Joy Baltz, Ashton, 14, and Zane, five; (center, from back) Matthew and Kim Baltz, Brooks, one, and Keaton, three; and (right) Michael and Marissa Hogan. WR to seek grants

Walnut Ridge City Council members passed resolutions to apply for grants that should help bring new jobs to the area and to make improvements to Stewart Park at their meeting on June 12. They also voted for a resolution to make the airplane/helicopter swap official.

Rezoning project continues

Mayor Lanny Tinker told the Hoxie City Council that he and the Planning and Zoning Commission will meet with Urban Planning Associates, Inc. of Little Rock on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at city hall for their second session. The public is welcome to attend.

BR couple killed in accident

A one-vehicle accident on Saturday at 12:20 p.m. resulted in the death of a Black Rock couple, according to Trooper Daniel Riley with the Arkansas State Police.

A Lawrence County man lost his life on Monday after a tree he was cutting on County Road 273 fell on him.
