FATHER/SON FISHING FUN - Mark VanBrook, along with his son, Matthew, were among many who enjoyed a morning of fishing during the Stewart Park Fishing Derby held Saturday. Matthew is on summer vacation after completing his kindergarten year at Hoxie Elementary.

Hayes elected district judge

Lawrence County District Judge Larry Hayes won reelection on Tuesday defeating challenger Clay Sloan by a vote of 1,054 (54 percent) to 906 (46 percent).

The only other local race was for justice of the peace for District1 on the Democratic ballot. Incumbent Jim Jones defeated Glen Smith by a vote of 145 (61 percent) to 91 (38.5 percent).

Clover Bend Reunion this weekend

The annual Clover Bend reunion will be held during the Memorial Day weekend.

The reunion will kick off with a Clover Bend vs. Lynn basketball game on Friday, beginning at 5 p.m., in the newly refurbished gym. The cost is $5 for adults, $2 for children six to 12, and free for children younger than six.

WR boy has wish granted

A trip to Sonic turned out to be so much more when five-year-old Peyton Tennison of Walnut Ridge learned that he was receiving his wish from the Make-A-Wish organization.
