Austin Louis Fitzgerald

Eric and Kerry Fitzgerad of Bay have announced the birth of a son, born on May 3, 2012, at St. Bernard's Birthcare Center in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed seven pounds, nine ounces, and has been named Austin Louis Fitzgerald. He has one brother, Aiden Michael Fitzgerald, 19 months.

Grandparents are James Kenneth and Teresa Whitehead of Cash, Tayna Fitzgerald of Pocahontas and Patrick M. Fitzgerald of Bay.

Great-grandparents are Rex Fitzgerald of Reyno, Shirley Hannaford of Pocahontas, Geneva Whitehead of Walnut Ridge and Robert and Audrey Jackson of Kansas City, Mo.

Carter ~ Wade

April Carter became the bride of Heath Wade on May 5. Bro. Derek Collins officiated the ceremony at Gethesemene Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge.

The bride is the daughter of Terry and Judy McCain. She attends Black River Technical College in Pocahontas and is enrolled in the ARNEC program.

She is employed as an LPN at Walnut Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Walnut Ridge.

The groom is the son of Randy and Melody Wade and is employed at Riceland Foods Service in Jonesboro.

Bridesmaids were Haley Hudson, daughter of the bride, and Hannah Wade, daughter of the groom.

Groomsmen were Tyler Hudson, son of the bride, and Blane Wade, son of the groom.

The couple reside in Hoxie.

Segraves ~ Lawson

Bobby and Michelle Segraves and Tim and Cheryl Stocker, all of Walnut Ridge, have announced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Courtney Jade Segraves, to Derek Evan Lawson, son of Ed and Tracy Lawson of Walnut Ridge and Byron and Vivian Ford of Urbana, Ill.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Billy and Hope Segraves of Walnut Ridge and Lonnie and Betty Davidson of Doniphan, Mo.

She is a 2006 Hoxie High School graduate, a 2010 graduate of Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, and is a third-year pharmacy student at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock.

She is employed as a pharmacy intern at the Outpatient Pharmacy at UAMS.

The prospective groom is the grandson of the late Jack and Shirley Lawson and the late Billy Joe and Elouise Jones. He is the great-grandson of Marguerite Gwaltney.

He is a 2007 graduate of Nettleton High School and a 2011 Arkansas State University graduate. He played for the ASU Football Team for five years. He also broke the single season rushing record in Arkansas for 2006 while playing football at Nettleton and was also part of the Sunbelt Conference Championship team.

He is employed in insurance sales at Lee Tuxhorn State Farm in Maumelle.

The couple will exchange vows on June 6, 2012, at 3 p.m. at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge. A reception will follow at the Lawrence County Meeting Room.

All family and friends are invited to attend.

Kimberly Rogers Williams and Danny Simpson have announced plans for their wedding on Friday at the home of her parents, Bill and Odessa Rogers.

The private ceremony will take place at 6 p.m.

A reception will follow at the Walnut Ridge Country Club at 7 p.m. All friends and relatives are invited to attend the celebration.

William Franklin Allen Sr.

William Franklin "Bill" Allen Sr., 83, of Paragould, formerly of Minturn, died May 15, 2012.

Born Oct. 8, 1928, in Minturn, he was the son of Frank and Lillie Sims Allen. He had lived in Paragould the past 19 years, where he was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Laura Jean Clark and an infant sister; four brothers, Jerry Allen, Carlos Allen, Thaddeus Allen and an infant brother.

Survivors include his wife, Eileen Allen, whom he married May 9, 1953; two daughters, Janet Smith, Wynne, and Donna Joyce, Jonesboro; a son, William Allen Jr., Paragould; four sisters, Georgial Freet, Glendola Wilson and Shelby Bates, all of Hot Springs, and Frances Whaley, Clover Bend; two brothers, Ernest Allen Minturn, and Tommy Allen, Bee Branch; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral is Thursday at 2 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery at Paragould.

Pallbearers will be Michael Allen, Mark Allen, Nate Jester, Dennis Smith, Chris Jester and Jack Land. Honoray pallbearer will be Ethan Joyce.

Visitation was set for tonight from 6-8 p.m.

Donald Edwin Austin

Donald Edwin "Pookie" Austin, 77, of Walnut Ridge, died May 10, 2012, at NEA Baptist Hospital.

Born April 8, 1935, in Walnut Ridge, he was the son of Frank and Ruby Harvey Austin. A U.S. Army veteran, he was retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and attended United Free Will Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Jackie Austin, Maxie Austin, Kenneth Austin, Jewel Austin and Bill Austin; a sister, Virginia Marten; and a daughter-in-law, Debbie Austin.

Survivors include his wife, Oma Lee Hindman Austin, whom he married Dec. 22, 1954, in Walnut Ridge; two daughters, Janet Lawhon and husband Gary, Walnut Ridge, and Lorra Whitmire and husband Chris, Clover Bend; a son, Kelly Austin, Jonesboro; two sisters, Pat Burklin, Greers Ferry, and Kate Anderson, Hoxie; two grandchildren, Austin Lawhon and ShayLee Lawhon; and a great-grandchild.

Funeral was Saturday at 3 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge with Rev. Glenn Smith officiating. Burial was in Austin Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dwight Ellis, Donald Brunson, Jason Andrews, Steve Shrable, Marty McGinnis and Jerry Adkisson.

Roger Dale Evans

Roger Dale Evans, 58, of Walnut Ridge, died May 7, 2012, in Waco, Texas.

He was born Oct. 3, 1953, in Walnut Ridge.

He was preceded in death by his father, Mander Evans.

Survivors include a son, Tyler Evans, Conway; his mother, Mary Evans, Walnut Ridge; four brothers, Steve Evans and Mack Evans, both of Jonesboro, James Evans, Batesville, and Greg Evans, Walnut Ridge; and a sister, Regina Hays, Black Rock.

A memorial service was held Saturday at 1 p.m. at United Free Will Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge. House-Gregg Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Alice Gillaspie

Alice Hanah Gillaspie, 79, of Walnut Ridge, died May 11, 2012, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 1, 1932, in Pocahontas, she was the daughter of Sydney and Edna Warner Parsons. She was a homemaker and was of the Mormon faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Gillaspie; three brothers, Chester Parsons, Junior Parsons and Chelcey Parsons; and three sisters, Maybell Lamb, Mary Matthews and Patsy Carley.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Krupnow, Michigan, and Juquin Brown, Snohomish, Washington; three brothers, Ray Parsons, Portia, Charles Parsons, Walnut Ridge, and John Parsons, Cave City; a sister, Beatrice Manning, Rock Falls, Ill.; five grandchildren, Travis JM Navarro, David DD Brown, Nicol Newcomb, Allen Krupnow and Adina Krupnow; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Joe Howard

Joe Howard, 76, of Black Rock, died May 11, 2012, at Walnut Ridge.

Born Jan. 15, 1936, in Monette, he was the son of Joe and Margaret Vittetoe Howard. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and attended Black Rock Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Howard; and three sisters, Lucille Wall, Opal Self and Billie Kopf.

Survivors include his wife, Charlene Phenix Howard; a son, Ken Howard, Black Rock; two daughters, Charla Howard, Walnut Ridge, and Dana Driver, Portia; two sisters, Margaret Augustina, Niles, Mich., and Ruby Floata, Effingham, Ill.; a brother, Bob Howard, Haines City, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Funeral was Monday at 10 a.m. with Tony Clem officiating. Burial was in Oak Forest Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Viola Mae Jones

Viola Mae Cook Jones, 85, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., formerly of Walnut Ridge, died May 11, 2012, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.

Born Nov. 26, 1926, she lived in Paragould before moving to Walnut Ridge in 1978. She was a secretary for Frit Industries and was a member of Main Street Church of Christ. She moved to Poplar Bluff in 2008.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Cook; her parents; a sister, Mona Howard; and two brothers, Tommy Smith and Willard Sonny Smith.

Survivors include her husband, Earl Jones; five daughters, Joan Stratton and husband Paul, Walnut Ridge, Connie Tolbert and husband Kenny and Linda Wineland, all of Jonesboro, Vickie Hidalgo, Michigan, and Theresa Justus and husband David, Light; two sons, Johnny Cook and wife Diana, Jonesboro, and Lloyd Cook and wife Stephanie, Paragould; a stepdaughter, Joyce Papadakis and husband Emanual; two stepsons, Lloyd Jones and wife Romana, and Larry Jones and wife Michelle, all of St. Louis; two sisters, Geneva Rowe, Michigan, and Wanda Slatton, Light; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Monday at 2 p.m. at Main Street Church of Christ with Paul McFadden and Rob Combs officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Walcott.

Pallbearers were Tommy Justus, Anthony Kent, Johnny Wayne Cook, Gabriel Cook, Rebecca Bullard and Sabrina Wills. Honorary pallbearers were Kimberly Hinson, Amber Kersey, Angela Murray, Autumn Tolbert and Amanda Cook.

Mildred Lane

Mildred Lane, 90, of Pocahontas, died May 11, 2012, at Walnut Ridge Nursing and Rehab.

Born Dec. 20, 1921, in Pocahontas, she was the daughter of Claude and Eddie Abanathy. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Manuel Lane, whom she married Feb. 18, 1969, in Harrison, Mich.

Funeral was Saturday at Taylor-Cox Funeral Home in Pocahontas with William Richard and Harry Hendrix officiating. Burial was to be in Manning, S.C.

Mary L. "Cris" Ponder, 69, of Cherokee Village, died May 11, 2012, at her home. She was the widow of Andrew Ponder, who was a Walnut Ridge native. Alice Oline Tidwell

Alice Oline Tidwell, 90, of Jonesboro, died May 11, 2012, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.

Born March 20, 1922, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of William Wesley and Jossie Waggner Huskey. She was retired from General Electric and was of the Church of Christ belief.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bud" Tidwell; and two brothers.

Survivors include a son, Tony Tidwell and wife Kathy, Jonesboro; a granddaughter, Mika Pellham; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Tuesday at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Rev. Patty Soward officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers were Steven Pellham, Chuck Bergman, Bob Walker, James Walker and David Smith.

She was an LPN at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center and a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Tristan Waits, of the home; her mother, Suzanne Waddell, Walnut Ridge; a brother, Jett Waddell, Walnut Ridge; her father, Gregory Waits, Hot Springs; her grandparents, Darlene Ryan, Tennessee, Carol Hager, Hot Springs, and Paul and Karen Farmer, California; and a great-grandmother, Gladys Campbell.

She was valedictorian of the Armorel High School class of 1951 and a member of Swifton Baptist Church.
