Bobcats enjoy week of wins

The Walnut Ridge High School baseball team enjoyed an undefeated week, capped by winning the county tournament at Hoxie. The Bobcats opened the week by winning three games in 2A-3 Conference play.
Walnut Ridge defeated East Poinsett County 14-4 on Thursday at Lepanto. Eric Wilcoxson batted 2-for-3 and had three RBIs. Clay Hufstedler and Teague Phillips each had two hits. Hunter Flippo was the winning pitcher. He allowed four runs on four hits and recorded five strikeouts in the five-inning game.
The Bobcats defeated Buffalo Island Central 10-4 on April 10 at Monette. Wilcoxson, Flippo, Cole Hicks and Payton Poole each had two hits for Walnut Ridge. Zach Crisler was the winning pitcher.
Walnut Ridge defeated Marked Tree 8-5 on April 9 at Stewart Park. Marked Tree entered the contest with a 36-game conference winning streak. With the game tied 1-1, Walnut Ridge pushed across five runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-1 lead. Marked Tree cut the lead to 6-4, but the Bobcats plated two more runs in the sixth inning for an 8-4 lead. The Indians added a run in the seventh to set the final score. Range Weeks pitched a complete game for Walnut Ridge. Offensively for the Cats, Phillips went 2-for-4, with three RBIs. Flippo was 2-for-4, with a pair of RBIs. Wilcoxson batted 2-for-3 and scored two runs.
