county champions

Hoxie's Lady Mustangs defeated Walnut Ridge 12-7 to claim the championship of the 2012 Lawrence County Softball Tournament in front of a home crowd at Hoxie High School on Saturday.

The Lady Mustangs were led offensively by Harley Kincade, who was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, and had three stolen bases. Cayley Rosson went 3-for-4, including two triples.

Hali Pratt pitched a seven-inning complete game to earn the win. She allowed seven hits and recorded seven strikeouts.

For Walnut Ridge, Sabrina Knight and Ashlyn Cothern each had two hits and scored two runs, while Raven Dobbs also had two hits. Felicia Price had one hit and scored twice. Hannah Massey had a hit and scored a run, and Brittany Dobbs had a hit.

Massey started in the circle for the Lady Bobcats and registered six strikeouts.

Hoxie - S-H

The Lady Mustangs earned their spot in the finals by defeating Sloan-Hendrix 11-4 earlier in the day.

Chasity Kingsland batted 3-for-4, with a double. Courtney Sears and Rosson each had two triples.

Pratt surrendered four hits and struck out eight batters to earn the win.

WR - Hillcrest

Walnut Ridge advanced to the final game with an 11-4 victory over Hillcrest, who had defeated Black Rock in Game 1 of the softball tournament.

The Lady Bobcats tallied five runs in the sixth inning to break open a close game.

Brittany Dobbs went 2-for-4 and scored a run. Massey had one hit and scored twice. Raven Dobbs scored three runs, and Hannah Doane scored two runs. Felicia Price had a hit and scored a run. Christin Holsapple and Dylane Brown each scored a run.
