WR claims county title in baseball

Walnut Ridge scored all the runs they would need in the third inning, and Ryan Vaughn held Hillcrest scoreless over the last 3-2/3 innings as the Bobcats defeated the Screamin' Eagles 5-4 in the finals of the 2012 Lawrence County Baseball Tournament on Saturday at Hoxie. It is the 16th county baseball title in the past 17 years for the Bobcats.

Tyler Dickson batted 2-for-3 for Walnut Ridge.

Tyler Parker had two hits for Hillcrest.

Walnut Ridge advanced to the finals by shutting out Sloan-Hendrix 12-0 earlier on Saturday.

The Greyhounds had defeated Black Rock in game 2 of the baseball tourney.

Eric Wilcoxson had two hits, including a home run. Teague Phillips, Clay Hufstedler and Rowdy Ditto each drove in two runs for the Bobcats.

Baron Estes pitched a four-inning complete game to pick up the victory. He allowed just one hit and recorded four strikeouts.

Hillcrest - Hoxie

Hillcrest opened the tournament with a 14-1 win over the host Hoxie Mustangs on Friday.

For Hoxie, Kyle Wilson had a double. Jake Ellis, Seth Hart and Hayden Defries each had singles.
