Clell Cox, co-owner of Taylor-Cox Funeral Home in Pocahontas, recently purchased Higginbotham Funeral Service, located in Walnut Ridge.
Now known as Cox Funeral Home, the business is located at 401 West Main Street.
Cox stressed that he and the staff at the funeral home are ready to assist any family, anytime, anywhere.
"Having acquired Lawrence County's oldest serving funeral home, it has become my commitment to provide personal service, trust, care and concern to our community," Cox said.
The funeral home, most recently owned by Mary Jo Higginbotham, had been in the Higginbotham family for more than 100 years.
Originally the Higginbotham Undertaking Company, the business was located in Ravenden Springs in the late 1800s. Later the first funeral home was built in Ravenden.
Through the years there were several funeral parlors owned by the Higginbotham family in Northeast Arkansas, but as people began having easier travel, concentration was placed on the funeral home at Walnut Ridge, which was established in 1933, and the one in Hardy, established in 1951.
The staff at Cox Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge has remained largely unchanged after the purchase.
Cox encourages residents to call him or a member of the staff if they have any questions or concerns.
"We have many great plans in the coming months," he said. "We appreciate your support and trust."
