The Walnut Ridge Bobcats won the Tri-County Baseball Tournament at Lepanto last week. The Bobcats defeated Trumann twice on Saturday to win the championship. Bobcats are Tri-County Tournament champs

The Walnut Ridge High School baseball team won the championship of the Tri-County Tournament last week at Lepanto. The Bobcats won five-of-six games in the tournament and came from the losers' bracket to defeat Trumann twice on Saturday to claim the title.


Walnut Ridge opened the tournament with a pair of victories on Thursday. The Bobcats defeated Brookland 8-1.

Hunter Flippo went the entire way on the mound. He allowed one run on six hits and struck out five, without surrendering a walk.

Offensively, Flippo, Cole Hicks and Teague Phillips each drove in two runs, and Eric Wilcoxson crossed the plate three times.

Also on Thursday, Walnut Ridge defeated Harrisburg 11-8.

With Harrisburg leading in the third inning, Flippo hit a bases-loaded double to drive in three runs and put the Bobcats on top. Tyler Dickson went 2-for-4 at the plate, with an RBI.

Baron Estes picked up the win on the mound. He allowed three runs on three hits, while striking out four and walking one. Zach Crisler pitched the final inning to earn the save.


A 9-7 loss to Trumann sent the Bobcats to the losers' bracket. Walnut Ridge bounced back with a 10-0 shutout over Marked Tree, as Tyler Dickson earned the win on the mound. Dickson allowed just three hits and registered six strikeouts while tossing a five-inning complete game.


Range Weeks pitched a complete-game shutout for Walnut Ridge, as the Bobcats downed Trumann 9-0. Weeks allowed just four hits, with six strikeouts and one walk.

The Bobcat win forced a second game between the two teams.

Walnut Ridge won the rematch 7-3 to claim the tournament title.

Darren Tribble was the winning pitcher, allowing one hit with three strikeouts and four walks in three-and-one-third innings.

For the tournament, Wilcoxson went 11-of-19 at the plate, while Crisler batted 7-of-15. Flippo drove in 10 runs, and Phillips recorded seven RBIs.


On Feb. 28, Walnut Ridge traveled to Tuckerman and recorded a 7-2 win over the Bulldogs.

Weeks earned the complete-game win. He allowed two runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.

Flippo went 3-for-3 at the plate, with two doubles and two RBIs. Hicks and Crisler each went 2-for-4 with two RBIs apiece.

Valley View

Walnut Ridge opened the 2012 season with a 12-7 loss to the Valley View Blazers at Stewart Park on Feb. 27.

The Bobcats led 5-4 until Valley View took the lead with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. The Blazers added two runs in the sixth inning and four more in the seventh to open up a 12-5 advantage. Walnut Ridge scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to set the final score.

Offensively for the Bobcats, Phillips had two hits and three RBIs. Wilcoxson and Crisler each had two hits and scored a run.
