Imboden native Alan Belcher continues to flourish in his multifaceted career. At the young age of 27, he has already become a well-known professional martial arts fighter, instructor, consultant and motivational speaker.
The 2002 graduate of Sloan-Hendrix High School lives in Biloxi, Miss., with his wife, Ashley, and three children, Savannah, age 12, Ava, age two, and Eli, three months. He owns a gym in D'Iberville, Miss., known as the Alan Belcher MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) Club, where he has 600 students.
Alan was invited by the UFC (Utimate Fighting Championship) to a press conference for FOX at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, where he was scheduled to go Monday.
He will be fighting in a middleweight UFC competition on May 5 in New Jersey. The fight will be televised on FOX network.
In July, he is scheduled to speak at the Martial Arts Super Show in Las Vegas. He will be speaking on how to establish and incorporate a successful MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) program into existing programs.
In addition, he serves as a motivational speaker for the National Guard. He also helps develop workouts for members of the Blue Angels, said his grandmother, Evelyn Martin of Ravenden. (The Blue Angels are highly-trained pilots who fly in formation to enhance Navy and Marine Corps recruiting efforts.)
"I am so proud of the man he has become," his grandmother said.
He began studying martial arts at 10 years of age and has always been competitive in some type of athletics, including baseball and basketball, which he played at Sloan-Hendrix.
Belcher is the son of John and Bobbie Belcher of Imboden.
