WR Council addresses

The council modified the city's existing tree ordinance by adding a $15 permit fee for commercial tree services.
Any person who performs work on trees for profit must obtain a permit from the city and provide at the time of application a certificate of insurance for general liabilities, workman's compensation and other coverage's required by law. Work on trees includes all cutting, trimming, pruning and/or removal of trees within the city.
Hoxie FD to be manned 24 hoursFire Chief Mark VanBrook presented a plan to the Hoxie Council at its February meeting that would allow the Hoxie firehouse to be manned 24-hours-a-day through an apprenticeship program offered through the Black River Technical College Fire Science Department.
Hayes seeks re-election as judgeJudge Larry Hayes has announced that he will seek another term as Lawrence County District Court judge.
Filing for Primary underwayThe filing period for the May 22 Primary Election is underway. At this time no races have developed for county positions.
WR, College City
Walnut Ridge and College City share the same zip code and water and sewer service. The Walnut Ridge Fire Department has a station there, and Walnut Ridge also has a water tower located at College City. Students from College City attend Walnut Ridge Schools.
