District tourney action underway
Nathan Hibbard With the completion of the 2011-2012 regular season, Lawrence County's senior high basketball teams head into district tournament play this week. Teams from the five local schools will be in action at four sites.
The Hoxie boys will play on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. against the winner of Tuesday's Piggott-Harrisburg game. Hoxie's Lady Mustangs received a bye into the semifinals on Friday at 6 p.m. against Manila, Harrisburg or Tuckerman.
Following a postponement due to weather, Walnut Ridge's boys were scheduled to take on Maynard on Tuesday evening. A win over the Tigers would send the Bobcats to a Thursday contest against Tuesday's Rector-Cross County winner. Walnut Ridge's Lady Bobcats will face Riverside tonight at 6:30.
The Black Rock Zebras were scheduled to play Armorel in the boys division Tuesday. If victorious, the Zebras will play Bay on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. The Lady Zebras were to play Armorel on Tuesday afternoon. With a win, the Black Rock girls will play Bay on Thursday at 7 p.m.
The Sloan-Hendrix boys were scheduled to play Norfork on Tuesday evening. A victory would send the Greyhounds into a meeting with Viola tonight at 8:30. Hillcrest's boys will play host Calico Rock tonight at 5:30. In the girls division, the Sloan-Hendrix Lady Greyhounds were scheduled to play Izard County Tuesday at 6 p.m. With a win, the Lady Hounds will play Norfork tonight at 7. The Hillcrest Lady Screamin' Eagles will play Mammoth Spring this afternoon at 4.
