Hoxie wins barnburners
Hoxie's senior high basketball teams won barnburners over Hillcrest on Senior Night at Hicks Gymnasium on Friday.
Jacob Defries scored 33 points as the Mustangs edged the Screamin' Eagles 74-71. With Hillcrest leading 71-69 in the final minute, Hoxie Colton Watson knocked down a three-pointer to give the Mustangs a 72-71 lead with 15 seconds to play. Following a Hillcrest turnover, Defries was fouled and sank two free throws to set the final score.
Watson and Slade Sullens each finished with 12 points.
Zach Doyle led Hillcrest with 26 points. Hunter Nunnally and Jeremiah Turner added 11 points apiece.
Senior Cayley Rosson scored 30 points to lead the Lady Mustangs to a 67-64 victory over the Lady Screamin' Eagles.
Hoxie led 27-26 at halftime and 47-46 at the end of the third quarter.
Also for Hoxie, Autumn Nelson hit three three-pointers and finished with 18 total points. Brandy Alls added 10 points.
Mackenzie Nunnally scored 20 points, and Lindsey Crews chipped in 14 for Hillcrest.
