Adam Lee Parks

Darrell and Sarah Parks of Bono have announced the birth of a son on Feb. 1, 2012, at St. Bernards Birthcare Center in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed nine pounds, four ounces and has been named Adam Lee Parks.

He has an older brother, Darrell Parks III.

Grandparents are Darrell and Hope Parks of Jonesboro, Kevin and Penny Oxford of Mountain Home and Lorie Bradford of Rector.

He is the great-grandson of Maxine Wallis, Edgar and Arlette Bradford, Patsy Hotchkiss and Clarence Oxford.

Gunner Jayce Patterson

Tommy and Sabrena Patterson of Lynn have announced the birth of a son on Feb. 1, 2012, at St. Bernards Birthcare Center in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed eight pounds, six ounces and has been named Gunner Jayce Patterson.

He has three siblings, Bayln, two, Trevor, 12, and Trenton, nine.

Grandparents are Steve and Becky Capps of Lynn, Rick and Rose Rodgers of Strawberry and Donnie Harbin of Marion. He is the great-grandson of Paul and Naomi Coulter of Marianna.

Allie Jean Priest

Cameron and Rita Priest of Black Rock have announced the birth of a daughter on Jan. 31, 2012, at St. Bernards Birthcare Center in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed eight pounds, eight ounces, and has been named Allie Jean Priest.

She has three sibings, Ryan Bradley Dickson, Haley Renea Dickson and Carlie Jo Priest.

Grandparents are Audrey Meeks of Black Rock and the late Herschel Meeks and Delbert and Syvilla Priest of Walnut Ridge.

Kambreigh Addison Shrable

Brett and Candis Shrable of Jonesboro have announced the birth of their first child, a daughter, born Feb. 2, 2012, at St. Bernards Birthcare Center in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed six pounds, 10 ounces, and has been named Kambreigh Addison Shrable.

She is the granddaughter of Mary Schug and Ken Ware of Jonesboro and Carol Shrable of Walnut Ridge and the late Gary Shrable.

Great-grandparents are Glenda Shrable and Cliff and Kathleen Miller, all of Walnut Ridge, Claud Martin of Jonesboro and Joyce Pollard of Bay.

Obituaries

Vonnie Adams

Vonnie Adams, 86, of Walnut Ridge, died Feb. 12, 2012, at her home.

Born Feb. 25, 1925, at Clover Bend, she was the daughter of Frank and Pearl Herriott Garrett. A lifelong resident of Walnut Ridge, she was a homemaker and a member of the Hoxie Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Adams; three sisters, Bonnie Smith and infants Thelma and Gracie; and three brothers, Luther Garrett, Vester Garrett and Elmo Garrett.

Survivors include five daughters, Mary Adams and Carmen Stayton, both of Walnut Ridge, Jeannie King and Tonia Goad, both of Jonesboro, and Eyvonne Burke, Cave City; a son, Johnnie Adams, Hoxie; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation is Thursday from noon until 1 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge. Graveside service will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery.

Wayne Kendall Fortenberry

Wayne Kendall Fortenberry, 87, of Palm Beach Shores and Okeechobee, Fla., died Feb. 6, 2012.

Born Feb. 27, 1924, in Lynn, he was the son of Clyde and Minnie Fortenberry. He served as a gunner on a Navy merchant ship during World War II. Following the war, he attended Harding College and graduate school at Florida State University. He received a masters in education from the University of Mississippi.

He began his teaching career at Belle Glade High School and later worked as a counselor at Forest Hill High School in Florida. After retirement, he served as a director, with several terms as chairman, of the Gold Coast Federal Credit Union. He was a member of the Okeechobee VFW and American Legion and the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Margie Nunnally Fortenberry; a daughter, Joan Smith and husband Larry; and a granddaughter, Sydney Smith.

Graveside service was Saturday at 2 p.m. at Port Mayaca Gardens Cemetery. Quattlebaum Funeral Home of West Palm Beach had charge of arrangements.

Stella Bernice Freeman

Stella Bernice Freeman, 85, of Walnut Ridge, formerly of Paragould, died Feb. 9, 2012.

Born June 24, 1926, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Thomas and Maude Manning Whittaker. She was retired from Arkansas Methodist Medical Center and the Greene County Library in Paragould. She was a member of the West View Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie A. Freeman; a daughter, Bonnie Carpenter; two brothers, Carl Whittaker and Walter Whittaker; four sisters, Viola Frye, Marie Shackelford, Christine Herzog and Aileen Bennett; and a great-grandson, Jordan Robert Davison.

Survivors include three daughters, Regina Kennedy, Cherokee Village, Vonda Edwards, Paragould, and Cindy Barker, Jonesboro; two sons, Reggie Freeman, Annieville, and Steve Freeman, Paragould; a sister, Betty Sue Walthoff, Grundy Center, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was Monday at 1 p.m. in Strangers Home Cemetery with Mark Reeves officiating. House-Gregg Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Gerald Freeman, Chris Light, Brad Hufford, Brent Carpenter, Brandon Freeman, Billy Davison, Danny Hufstedler and Kenny Hall. Honorary pallbearers were Darrin Light and Roger Carpenter.

Gregg J.Z. Griggry, 59, of Paragould, father of Matthew Gregg Griggry of Hoxie, died Feb. 6, 2012, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Ellis Hooten

Ellis Hooten, 87, of Walnut Ridge, died Feb. 7, 2012, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born Sept. 8, 1924, in Strawberry, he was the son of John and Clara Hugg Hooten. He was a World War II Army veteran and a retired pipeliner for the Texas Eastern Company. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Oak Grove.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Hooten; and four sisters, Verna Petrick, Maxine Huskey, Linda Wilson and Rose Marie Hooten.

Survivors include his wife, Leota Mae Hooten; a son, Fordy Hooten and wife Kathy, Walnut Ridge; a daughter, Pamela Hooten, of the home; three brothers, William Paul Hooten, Jonesboro, Thomas Hooten, Oakview, Calif., and Joe Hooten, Texas; two sisters, Barbara Alsup and Brenda Smith, both of Ventura, Calif.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Saturday at 11 a.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Kelly Rowe officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Marvin Parks, Norman Butts, Michael Butts, Glenn Murphy, Duane Downs and Bill Beeler. Honorary pallbearers were Haley Pope, Heather Eggers, Troy Hooten and Laura Olinger.

Terry Rogers

Terry Rogers, 57, of Hoxie, died Feb. 14, 2012, at his home.

Born May 29, 1954, in Rockford, Ill., he had lived in Hoxie for 55 years and was a member of the Hoxie United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Adrian and Shirley McKnight Rogers; and his grandparents, James and Laura Rogers and Jettie McKnight.

Survivors include his wife, Debby Rogers; a daughter, Julie Helms and husband Matt, Cave City; two sisters, Charlotte Myers and husband Rick, Jonesboro, and Sherry Hart and husband Mike, Sedgwick; a brother, Douglas Rogers and wife Peggy, Walnut Ridge; and two grandchildren, Stormy Helms and Sadie Helms.

Funeral is Friday at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge with Bill Hughes and Mark Harris officiating. Burial will be in Strangers Home Cemetery, near Alicia, under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the church in Walnut Ridge.

Pallbearers will be Richard Rogers, Clay Hart, Seth Hart, David Gairhan, Dustin Blackshear and Jeremy Carter.

Ruby Nell Stogsdill

Ruby Nell Smith Stogsdill, 88, died Feb. 6, 2012.

Born Dec. 29, 1923, in Marked Tree, she was the daughter of Walter William and Daisy Bell Hedrick Smith. She was the 10th of 16 children, and lived much of her life in Imboden. During World War II, she worked at Bell Telephone in Memphis before moving to California to work as a riveter at a military aircraft factory.

Following the war, she lived in Rockford, Ill., for several years before returning to Imboden in 1963, where she worked as a nurses' aid at Pocahontas Nursing Home. She later moved to Heber Springs and worked as an office manager for her brother, Dr. Wayne Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Albert Stogsdill, in 1989, whom she married May 30, 1942; and 11 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include four children, James Albert Jr., Carol Ann, Michael Wayne and David Alan; four brothers; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Sunday at 2 p.m. at McNabb Funeral Home with Russell Smith officiating. Burial was in Hope Cemtery.

Martha Rose Williams

Martha Rose Williams, 63, of Walnut Ridge, died Feb. 8, 2012, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born March 2, 1948, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of the late Acquilla "Peg" and Ruby Lawrence Lamberth.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Faye Finley and Rethal Nunnally; and three brothers, Connealius "Junior" Brandon, Gale D. Raney and Boyce Lamberth.

Survivors include two children, Lindsey Lloyd Thomas and April Lorene Thomas; three sisters, Vesta Smith, Black Rock, Sharon Broadway, Imboden, and Nona Richey, Powhatan; and two brothers, Quinton Vero Brandon, Mulberry, and James Alis Raney, Roland, Okla.

Funeral was Saturday at 1 p.m. at Higginbotham Funeral Service with Rev. Wayne Bryant officiating. Burial was in Black Rock Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Billy Broadway, Christopher Broadway, Cody Broadway, Aaron Meyer, Tyler Todd, Kelly Richey and Terry Smith.

Shirley Williams, 73, of Jonesboro, formerly of Dexter, Mo., sister of Larry Woods of Alicia, died Feb. 9, 2012, at her home.
