WR girls beat Marked Tree

The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats defeated 2A-3 conference opponent Marked Tree 69-61 in senior girls basketball action on Jan. 30 at Sharum Gymnasium.

Walnut Ridge trailed 29-23 at halftime, but overtook the Lady Indians in the third quarter to lead 46-40 entering the final period.

Katie Lewis led the Lady Bobcats with 24 points and 16 rebounds, while Anna Bland contributed 17 points and 10 boards. Caroline Kelley scored nine points. Holly Looney had six points, and Ashley Roacho added five.

The Lady Bobcats improved to 7-9 in the conference and 9-12 overall.

Walnut Ridge also won a junior girls game, 39-29, and a seventh-grade game 35-16.

The Lady Bobcats traveled to Monette on Jan. 27 and suffered a 67-47 setback at the hands of Buffalo Island Central's Lady Mustangs.

Bland and Kelley each had eight points for Walnut Ridge. Looney finished with seven points. Ashlyn Cothern and Katie Lewis had six points apiece, and Hannan Massey added five points.

BIC won a junior girls game 59-37.
