Lady Mustangs defeat Corning
Autumn Nelson had 24 points, including six three-pointers, to lead the Hoxie Lady Mustangs to a 63-50 conference victory over Corning on Jan. 30 at Hoxie.
Hoxie led 10-9 at the end of the first quarter and the game was tied 25-25 at halftime. The Lady Mustangs moved into a 48-37 lead after three quarters.
In addition to Nelson, Krista Coffell scored 14 points, and Cayley Rosson added 12 points for Hoxie. Brandy Alls finished with six points. Maddison Woodard had five points, and Courtney Sears chipped in two points.
The Lady Mustangs improved to 9-5 in 3A-3 conference play and 11-8 overall.
Corning's junior girls jumped out to a 14-3 first-quarter lead en route to a 43-18 win over Hoxie.
Corning led 23-8 at halftime and 32-13 after three quarters.
Krista Vankirk led Hoxie with eight points. Brooke Willfond hit a three-pointer. Angel Morris, Katelyn Fitzgerald and Bekka Kopp each had two points, and Kelsey Ward added a free throw.
Hoxie's seventh-grade girls dropped a heartbreaker to the Lady Bobcats, 18-17.
Corning led 7-6 at halftime, and the teams battled through an even second half, with each side scoring 11 points.
Ward led Hoxie with six points. Erica Eubanks scored four points, and Kopp added three. Devin Pollard and Victoria Swartzlander each had two points.
