The Hoxie Mustangs defeated Hillcrest's Screamin' Eagles 66-35 to win the senior boys division of the Lawrence County Tournament Saturday night at Imboden.
The Mustangs held Hillcrest to six points in the second half to break open a close game. Hoxie led 35-29 at halftime, then extended the lead to 52-35 at the end of the third period. The Mustangs held the Eagles scoreless in the fourth quarter.
Colton Watson scored 21 points and Slade Sullens added 15 for Hoxie.
Lady Mustangs are county champs
Hoxie's Lady Mustangs defeated the Hillcrest Lady Screamin' Eagles 63-60 in the senior girls final of the Lawrence County Tournament Friday night at Imboden.
Lady Mustangs defeat Corning
Autumn Nelson had 24 points, including six three-pointers, to lead the Hoxie Lady Mustangs to a 63-50 conference victory over Corning on Jan. 30 at Hoxie.
WR girls beat
The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats defeated 2A-3 conference opponent Marked Tree 69-61 in senior girls basketball action on Jan. 30 at Sharum Gymnasium.
Hoxie players sign with WPU
Two Hoxie High School football players signed letters of intent to play for William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa, during a National Signing Day ceremony on Feb. 1.
