Foley dies at age 90

Former Lawrence County Sherriff and County Judge D.S. "Rosie" Foley died Monday at Lawrence Memorial Hospital at the age of 90.

Foley was born in Smithville in 1921 and graduated from Walnut Ridge High School. After graduation he joined the Navy and was a World War II veteran.

Foley served as Lawrence County Sheriff from 1951 to 1960 and then became county judge in 1979, serving in that position until 1982. He was a member of the Jimmy Jeff Sharum Firehouse Boys and an appraiser for the Jack Cato Association, and he held numerous jobs with the state as well.

Funeral arrangements have not been finalized.
