BR beats Armorel
Tyler Newell poured in 35 points to lead the Black Rock Zebras to a 73-62 victory over Armorel in senior boys basketball Thursday night at Black Rock.
The Zebras led 16-15 after one quarter, as Newell scored all of Black Rock's points. Armorel moved into the lead in the second period and led 34-30 at halftime. The teams were tied 48-48 at the end of the third quarter.
Newell also grabbed 11 rebounds, while Sam Clem finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Zebras.
Black Rock improved to 3-7 in 1A-3 East conference play and 5-19 overall.
The Black Rock junior high boys were also victorious, defeating Armorel 44-35.
The Black Rock Lady Zebras defeated Ridgefield Christian 57-41 in senior girls basketball on Jan. 24 at Black Rock.
Rainey Robinett led the Lady Zebras with 24 points. Cheyenne Vance finished with 13 point and 10 rebounds for Black Rock. Kaylie Hammock grabbed 12 rebounds, and Christina Ervin had 11 boards.
Ridgefield Christian slipped past the Black Rock senior boys 55-52.
Black Rock trailed 32-19 at the half, but rallied to close to within 38-36 after three quarters. Ridgefield converted several crucial free throws in the final two minutes to hold off the Zebras.
Clem led Black Rock with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Newell had 18 points and 11 boards.
The Black Rock junior boys defeated Ridgefield 44-21.
