Hoxie claims homecoming win

Colton Watson rang up his second 28-point game of the week to lead the Hoxie Mustangs to an 86-69 victory over the Piggott Mohawks in 3A-3 basketball action Friday night at Hoxie.

The Mustangs led 15-10 after a quarter, 41-29 at halftime and 57-48 at the end of the third quarter.

Also for Hoxie, Slade Sullens scored 19 points, and Jacob Defries added 18. Jake Ellis pitched in seven points, and Tyler Hall had four.

Seth Hart knocked down a three-pointer, and Hayden Defries added a free throw.

Junior high

The junior Mustangs downed Piggott 60-28, behind a 24-point performance from Tristan Privett.

Hoxie led 24-11 after one period, 35-20 at halftime and 53-22 after three quarters.

Other junior Mustang scorers included Noah Adamson with 13 points, and James Johnson with six points. Tristan Sisco had five points, and Rylee Lewis added four. Alex Carpenter and Quinton Smith had three points each, and Aaron French had two points.

Seventh grade

The Piggott seventh-grade boys defeated Hoxie 49-12.

Sam Light led Hoxie with four points, and Chaise Moore had three. Layne Wright and Isaac Dunning had two points each, and Colton Robins added one point.


The Mustangs began the week by routing the Corning Bobcats 73-42.

Hoxie led 34-28 at halftime before blowing the game open in the second half. The Mustangs outscored Corning 20-9 in the third quarter and 18-5 in the final period.

Watson led the Mustangs with 28 points. Jacob Defries had 13 points, and Hart added 12. Sullens finished with eight points, and Brody VanWinkle had seven. Hayden Defries added three points, and Jake Hickman had two points.

Junior high

Hoxie's junior high boys defeated Corning 50-38.

The Mustangs led 13-6 after one quarter, 21-12 at halftime and 40-24 after the third quarter.

Privett led Hoxie with 16 points, while Adamson contributed 15 points. Smith finished with 11 points. Sisco scored five points, and French added three.

Seventh grade

Hoxie's seventh-grade boys lost to Corning 22-5.

Light scored three points, and Moore had two for Hoxie.
