Hoxie falls to Rivercrest
The Hoxie boys basketball teams were in action last week, facing 3A-3 Conference foes Rivercrest and Earle on the road.
The Mustangs traveled to Wilson on Friday and were handed a narrow 52-48 loss by the Rivercrest Colts.
Rivercrest jumped out to a 17-9 advantage after one period, and led 23-18 at halftime. The Colts carried a 41-35 lead into the fourth quarter.
Colton Watson hit five three-pointers and finished with 18 points, while Jacob Defries added 16 points for the Mustangs. Slade Sullens and Tyler Hall each finished with six points, and Hayden Defries scored two.
Rivercrest won a junior boys game 56-18.
The junior Colts led 15-6 after one quarter, 32-13 at halftime and 48-16 at the end of the third quarter.
Tristan Privett and Paul Adamson had six points apiece for the junior Mustangs. Quinton Smith, Noah Adamson and Aaron French each scored two points.
The Rivercrest seventh-grade boys defeated Hoxie 30-5.
Chaise Moore scored four of Hoxie's points, and Sam Light added a free throw.
The Earle Bulldogs defeated Hoxie 64-42 at Earle on Jan. 17.
Earle led 18-13 at the end of the first quarter, 36-25 at halftime and 55-30 after three periods.
Watson scored 20 points for the Mustangs. Brody VanWinkle had eight points. Jacob Defries and Jake Ellis each had five points, and Hayden Defries scored four points.
The Hoxie junior high boys jumped out to a 13-1 first-quarter lead and went on to record a 58-30 victory over Earle. Hoxie led 37-16 at halftime and 52-27 after three quarters.
Privett led the junior Mustangs with 22 points. Noah Adamson had 12 points, and Smith added 11. Tristan Sisco finished with nine points, and Brody Raby scored two points.
Earle's seventh-grade boys defeated Hoxie 47-5.
Colton Robins scored all of Hoxie's points.
