Teams compete in NEA
Nathan Hibbard Two Lawrence County teams posted wins in the opening round of the NEA Invitational Basketball Tournament before being eliminated in the second round on Dec. 27. The Black Rock Lady Zebras lost to 1A-3 East conference opponent Crowley's Ridge Academy 49-42, while the Sloan-Hendrix Lady Greyhounds fell to Marked Tree 62-45.
CRA was in control of the game from the outset and led by as many as 20 points in the fourth quarter. Black Rock rallied to close the gap to with six points at 46-40, but could get no closer. Kaylee Hammock finished with nine points and 14 rebounds for the Lady Zebras, and Sarah Penn also had nine points. Cheyenne Vance had eight points, 10 rebounds and three steals, and Christian Ervin added eight points and 11 rebounds.
Madicyn Huddleston recorded 13 points and eight rebounds for Sloan-Hendrix in the Lady Greyhounds' 62-45 loss to Marked Tree. Katie Castleberry had 10 points for the Lady Hounds.
