The 65th annual Northeast Arkansas Invitational basketball tournament gets underway today at the ASU Convocation Center in Jonesboro.
The tournament will undergo a change in format in 2011, dividing the teams based on enrollment instead of classification. The 15 largest schools based on Arkansas Activities Association enrollment figures will compete in Division II, with all remaining teams competing in Division I.
Senior high boys and girls teams from four Lawrence County schools will be participating in this year's event. Walnut Ridge has been placed in Divison II, while Black Rock, Hillcrest and Sloan-Hendrix will compete in Division I.
Two county schools will be in action today. The Sloan-Hendrix boys will play top-seeded Bay at 6 p.m., while the Black Rock boys will face Augusta at 9 p.m.
On Thursday, Walnut Ridge's Lady Bobcats will play East Poinsett County at 9 a.m.
Friday will be a busy day for Lawrence County teams. The Sloan-Hendrix Lady Greyhounds play Augusta at 9 a.m. The Hillcrest and Black Rock girls will square off at noon. The Hillcrest boys will take on Ridgefield Christian at 4:30 p.m., and the Walnut Ridge boys will face Osceola at 9 p.m
