WR falls to Marked Tree
Staff Writer Marked Tree defeated Walnut Ridge 62-37 in senior boys basketball action on Friday night at Marked Tree. Marked Tree led 13-10 after one quarter, 35-24 at halftime and 52-32 at the end of the third quarter. Zach Crisler led the Bobcats with 17 points, and Matt Cox added nine points. Marked Tree won a junior boys game 52-33. Marked Tree led 16-8 at the end of the first quarter, 27-15 at halftime and 38-19 after three periods. Spencer Wilson led the junior Bobcats with 13 points, and Martin Crisler added eight points.
Walnut Ridge's Lady Bobcats lost at Marked Tree 62-52 on Thursday evening. The Lady Indians led 23-13 after one period, 35-29 at halftime and 53-45 at the end of the third quarter. Katie Lewis scored 12 points, and Holly Looney added nine for the Lady Cats.
The Walnut Ridge senior boys held Riverside to two points in the third quarter to pull away from the Rebels en route to a 51-34 victory. The teams were evenly matched in the first half, with Riverside holding a 14-12 edge at the end of the first quarter, and the Bobcats fighting back to grab a 26-25 halftime advantage. Walnut Ridge outscored the Rebels 15-2 in the third quarter and led 41-27 heading into the final period. Crisler led Walnut Ridge with 17 points. Range Weeks finished with seven points, while Eric Wilcoxson, Eric Huff and Cox each chipped in six points. In a junior boys game, Riverside topped Walnut Ridge 58-29. The junior Rebels led 19-3 after the first quarter, 30-10 at halftime and 49-22 after three periods. Kenzie Flippo scored five points, while Martin Crisler and Wilson had four apiece.
The Lady Bobcats hosted Riverside on Dec. 12 and came away with a 48-40 victory. The Lady Rebels led 10-9 after one period, only to see Walnut Ridge storm back in the second quarter to lead 24-14 at halftime. The Lady Bobcats maintained their lead in the second half, and held a 36-25 advantage entering the fourth quarter. Audrey McElrath and Ashlyn Cothern paced the Lady Cats with nine points apiece. Riverside's junior high girls defeated Walnut Ridge 35-25, while Walnut Ridge won a seventh-grade girls contest 24-9.
