CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS - The Lawrence County Cooperative School in Portia held its Christmas party Monday. The Kiwanis Club of Walnut Ridge, with the help of Santa, provided gifts for the students, a tradition the club began approximately 30 years ago. Postal closings delayed

The U.S. Postal Service has agreed to delay the closing or consolidation of any post office or mail processing facility until May 15 of next year, according to a statement released last week.

Gearhart addresses Hoxie Council

Wayne Gearhart, director of the Intermodal Authority, visited with the Hoxie City Council on Dec. 13 to encourage the city of Hoxie to continue as a contributing member of the Intermodal Authority for the next year. The annual price of membership for Hoxie in 2012 is $11,428.

WR ends year in good shape

The Walnut Ridge City Council held its last meeting of the year in the new police complex on Dec. 13. The complex, located on Highway 67B, officially opened on Nov. 20, and future council meetings will be held there.

Angel Tree project very successful

A very successful Angel Tree Project is now almost completed. Thanks to the generosity of many individuals, families and organizations, the project will provide Christmas gifts for approximately 450 children in Lawrence County.
