Hillcrest ladies beat ICC
Elizabeth Rush sank a basket as time expired to lift the Hillcrest Lady Screamin' Eagles to a 50-48 win over Izard County Consolidated Friday night at Brockwell.
ICC led 30-25 at halftime, and 41-38 at the end of the third quarter. The Lady Eagles rallied to tie the game at 48-48 in the final period before taking the win on Rush's buzzer-beater.
Lindsey Crews led Hillcrest with 14 points, and Kellie Beasley added 10.
The Hillcrest senior boys fell to ICC 66-53, despite a 28-point performance from Hunter Nunnally.
The Eagles trailed 20-12 after one quarter, but played strong defense in the second period to hold the Cougars to four points in the quarter and take a 25-24 lead into halftime.
ICC regained the lead in the third quarter, 43-38, and held off Hillcrest in the final period.
Tyler Parker and Zach Doyle each finished with eight points for the Eagles. Brandon Scott had six points, and Evan Doyle added three points.
The ICC junior boys defeated Hillcrest 33-26.
The junior Cougars led 6-2 after one quarter, 16-6 at halftime and 24-15 after three periods.
Brad Nunnally and Cameron Durham each scored seven points for Hillcrest, and Cody Brannon added four points. Walker Morgan and David Tidwell each scored three points, and Aaron Helms had two points.
The Hillcrest senior girls coasted to a 66-35 victory over Melbourne on Dec. 6 at Lynn.
Hillcrest led 18-11 after one period, 36-19 at halftime and 49-27 at the end of the third period.
Crews led the Lady Eagles with 15 points. Beasley had 13 points, and Mackenzie Nunnally and Rush had 11 apiece.
The Melbourne junior high girls defeated Hillcrest 51-45.
Hillcrest defeated Melbourne in a senior boys contest 57-44.
Hillcrest led 20-9 after one quarter, 34-21 at the half, and 49-28 at the end of three periods.
Hunter Nunnally scored 19 points to lead the Screamin' Eagles. Zach Doyle finished with 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Colman Evans pulled down 13 rebounds.
