Michelle Anthony named
Mitch Whitmire resigned as manager of the Walnut Ridge Airport, effective Dec. 31, at a special meeting on Nov. 21. He had served as manager since November of 2009.
"He gave us no reason for the resignation," said Airport Commission Chairman Dan Coker. "We think he may have resigned in part due to health issues, and we are very sorry to lose him."
The commissioners voted to accept his resignation and named Michelle Anthony as interim manager.
Anthony began working at the airport in October of 2010 when Whitmire hired her as his administrative assistant.
"I have learned so much from him," Anthony said. "He is an excellent leader and will be greatly missed."
Anthony's grandparents were the late Otto and Dessie Simpson of Portia, and she spent her summers with her grandmother while she was growing up. She is a 1988 graduate of Jonesboro High School and is the daughter of Nancy Simpson Hall and Larry Hall.
Her 10-year-old daughter, Maddie, is a fifth-grader at Walnut Ridge Middle School, and she has a 20-year-old son, Cody Kelley, who lives in Paragould.
"It is an honor to be named interim manager," said Anthony.
"I am very excited about my new position and look forward to working with the airport commissioners to further the growth and improvements to the Walnut Ridge Airport."
