Snapps are Man, Woman of Year

Although the Man and Woman of the Year recipients are a guarded secret until announced, it was no surprise when this year's recipients were announced as Charles and Jackie Snapp. The announcement was made at Thursday night's annual banquet of the Lawrence County Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Snapps are members of the Chamber's Tourism Committee and were a driving force behind the creation of The Beatles Abbey Road sculpture and Beatles Park.

State leaders applaud efforts

"The Landscape is Changing" was the theme of this year's annual meeting of the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce held at Williams Baptist College. Guest speakers were Lt. Governor Mark Darr and Secretary of State Mark Martin.

Water plant complete

The Northeast Arkansas Public Water Authority has finished construction of the water treatment plant located on Spring River at 1835 Highway 361 and has scheduled transmission dates.

Alderman appointed at Hoxie

During an executive session at the Nov. 15 Hoxie City Council meeting the council nominated and approved the appointment of Larry Couch to replace Richard Combs who resigned due to a job transfer to Florida. Combs was the Ward 2 Position 1 councilman.

Head Start honors Russell, Howard

Region VI Head Start Association, which consists of five states, has named Redda Russell of Hoxie as 2011 Volunteer of the Year and Pauline Howard of Walnut Ridge as 2011 Friend of Head Start.
