BIC beats BR despite rally
Buffalo Island Central withstood a late rally by Black Rock to edge the Zebras 45-42 on homecoming night Friday at Black Rock.
BIC led 27-22 at halftime and 38-34 after three periods. Black Rock fought back to force a 42-42 tie with less than two minutes to play, but weren't able to overcome the Mustangs.
Sam Clem led Black Rock with 20 points and six rebounds. Caleb McKenzie scored eight points and pulled down five rebounds, while Dakota Day had eight points and two boards. Derrek Nunally added four points and had three rebounds, and Shane Fleming had two points and two rebounds.
BIC defeated Black Rock 41-36 in a junior boys contest.
Matt Wilkins led the junior Zebras with 19 points and three rebounds. Ryan Roberts added 13 points and grabbed eight boards. Drew Howard scored four points and pulled down four rebounds.
Maynard's Lady Tigers outlasted Black Rock for a 69-59 victory in senior girls basketball action on Thursday at Black Rock.
The Lady Zebras led 20-16 at the end of the first quarter, but Maynard used a strong second period to move into a 36-32 halftime advantage. Maynard continued to lead 47-45 after three quarters and pulled away in the final period to secure the win.
Laney Robinette led Black Rock with 19 points, while Christian Ervin poured in 15.
Maynard won a junior girls game 45-18.
