Hillcrest sweeps Calico Rock
The Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles raced out to a 27-15 halftime advantage en route to defeating Calico Rock 51-32 in senior boys basketball action Thursday night at Lynn.
The Eagles were led by Colman Evans, who scored 24 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and had six steals. Zach Doyle added 10 points for Hillcrest.
Hillcrest slipped past Calico Rock 30-29 in overtime in a junior boys contest.
In senior girls action, the Calico Rock Lady Pirates defeated Hillcrest 66-41.
Lindsey Crews scored a game-high 21 points for the Lady Eagles.
The fourth quarter proved to be the undoing for both of Hillcrest's senior high teams against Mammoth Spring on Nov. 1 at Lynn.
The senior girls game was tied 14-14 after one quarter, before Mammoth Spring moved into a 33-27 advantage at halftime. Hillcrest outscored the Lady Bears 14-4 in third period to lead 41-37 after three quarters. The Lady Eagles could manage only two point in the final period, as Mammoth Spring came back to take the win, 47-43.
Crews led Hillcrest with 14 points, and Kellie Beasley added 11.
The senior boys contest was close for three quarters, with Hillcrest leading 22-12 after one period and 23-22 at halftime. The visiting Bears held a slim 32-29 lead at the end of the third quarter, but pulled away in the final period to hand the Eagles their first loss of the season, 54-41.
Evans led the Eagles with 11 points, and Doyle finished with 10.
The Hillcrest junior high boys defeated Mammoth Spring 47-34.
