Voters pass measure
for bond program

Voter turnout in Tuesday's special election was light. Those who cast ballots did so largely in favor of the measure, which will allow the issuance of bonds to finance interstate rehabilitation.

In Lawrence County, only 457 votes were cast, 406 of which (89 percent) were for allowing the issuance of bonds.

Only 51 votes (11 percent) were cast against the measure.

With Tuesday's vote, Arkansas residents have renewed a $575 million bond program to repair 400 miles of interstate highways. The plan renews a 1999 package that fixed 350 miles of four-lane highways.
