Voters pass measure
for bond program

Voter turnout in Tuesday's special election was light. Those who cast ballots did so largely in favor of the measure, which will allow the issuance of bonds to finance interstate rehabilitation.

In Lawrence County, only 457 votes were cast, 406 of which (89 percent) were for allowing the issuance of bonds. continued

WR plans
to apply
for grant

At a special meeting on Nov. 1, the Walnut Ridge City Council voted to apply for a $150,000 grant from the Arkansas Rural Development Commission to build a parking lot for the new police station.

AHTD reveals plans for new bridge

The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department unveiled a preliminary plan on Nov. 1 to build a new bridge spanning the Black River on U.S. Highway 63 at Black Rock that will replace the current deficient bridge.

Holiday shopping season begins

A Christmas open house was held in Portia last weekend, and several Walnut Ridge businesses will participate in a Christmas open house this Sunday as local merchants are kicking off the holiday shopping season.
