BR has busy week
The Black Rock Lady Zebras fell to Maynard 64-54 in senior girls basketball Friday at Black Rock.
Maynard jumped out to a 22-12 first-quarter lead, and extended it to 37-25 at halftime. The Lady Zebras regrouped in the second half and trailed only 45-40 after three periods.
For Black Rock, Christian Ervin had 17 points and seven rebounds. Sarah Penn had 14 points and seven rebounds, and Ranie Robinett tallied 13 points. Megan Carey led with 13 rebounds.
Maynard also won a junior girls game 55-32.
Black Rock used a fourth-quarter rally to edge the Mammoth Spring Bears 40-37 in senior boys action on Oct. 25 at Black Rock.
The Zebras led 17-10 after one period, but the Bears closed to within 23-21 at the end of the half. Mammoth Spring carried their momentum into the second half and moved out to a 38-29 lead after three quarters, before falling to the Zebras comeback.
Dakota Day led Black Rock with 15 points and grabbed two rebounds. Caleb McKenzie finished with 11 points, five rebounds and three steals. Sam Clem had 10 points and eight rebounds. Derek Nunnally had two points, four rebounds and three assists. Shane Fleming added two points and six rebounds.
In junior boys action, it was Mammoth Spring who used a strong fourth quarter to break a 28-28 tie after three quarters and pull away for a 46-35 victory.
Ryan Roberts led the junior Zebras with 10 points and four rebounds. Andrew Mashburn had 10 points and four rebounds. Matt Wilkins recorded eight points and four steals. Malachi Gott added three points and a rebound, while Carter Vance chipped in two points and a rebound.
The Black Rock junior boys faced Hillcrest in the junior high tournament at Sloan-Hendrix on Oct. 24, with Hillcrest prevailing 39-25.
Wilkins led the junior Zebras with nine points and three rebounds. Roberts added six points and six rebounds. Gott finished with six points and five rebounds. Mashburn and Drew Howard each recorded two points and a rebound.
