The Hoxie Mustangs and Bald Knob Bulldogs combined for over 900 yards of offense Friday night at Crider Field, and the Mustangs came away with a 41-28 victory.

The win assured the Mustangs of no worse than third place in the 3A-3 playoff seedings, which means Hoxie will host a first-round game in the state playoffs on Nov. 11. The Mustangs could move up to second place with a victory at Rivercrest in their final regular season game Thursday night.

Hoxie opened the scoring on Devin Roberts' 10-yard run with 8:35 to play in the first quarter. Later in the period, Sebastian Irvin scored his first touchdown on a quarterback keeper from a yard out. Seth Hart's second PAT gave Hoxie a 14-0 lead at the end of the first period.

Irvin scored again with less than a minute to play in the first half, and Hart's PAT put the Mustangs ahead 21-0 at the break.

Bald Knob got back in the game with a touchdown midway through the third quarter, but the Mustangs responded on their ensuing possession when Kenny Mashburn sprinted 59 yards for a score. Hart's PAT gave Hoxie a 28-7 lead with 5:02 to play in the third period.

The Bulldogs added a touchdown later in the period to cut Hoxie's lead to 28-13 after three quarters.

Irvin's one-yard run pushed Hoxie's advantage to 34-13 with 9:47 to play in the game. Bald Knob added a touchdown and two-point conversion to cut their deficit to 34-21 with 8:28 to play.

Irvin raced 43 yards for his fourth score of the night with 3:32 remaining. Hart's fifth PAT gave the Mustangs their final point. Bald Knob added a touchdown and PAT with less than a minute to play to set the final score.

Irvin led Hoxie, with 219 yards rushing and four touchdowns on 31 carries, while Roberts added 123 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries. Mashburn finished with 74 yards and a touchdown on just two carries. D.J. Kendrick added 22 yards on four carries.

Irvin was one-of-six passing, with a 22-yard completion to Mashburn.

Colton Brown led the Mustangs' defense, with 16 tackles. Tyler Hall and Eric Moore each had 13 tackles and blocked a pass, while Hall also made an interception and blocked a pass. Cody Treadaway recorded 11 tackles, one interception and one blocked pass. Irvin made 10 tackles, including a sack. Mashburn registered 10 tackles and blocked a pass, and Joe Gage had 10 tackles.

The Mustangs now stand at 5-1 in conference play and 6-3 overall. The game with Rivercrest at Wilson is set for Thursday night at 7 p.m.
