WR slams Westside, 47-3
The Walnut Ridge Bobcats traveled to Jonesboro on Friday to take on the Westside Warriors in senior high football action. The Bobcats racked up 499 yards of offense, including 387 on the ground, and pummeled the Warriors 47-3.
Zach Crisler put Walnut Ridge on the scoreboard with a six-yard run just two minutes into the contest. Eric Wilcoxson gave the Cats a 14-0 lead with a 10-yard run with 1:39 to play in the opening period.
Crisler passed 42 yards to Cole Hicks for Walnut Ridge's next score early in the second quarter. The Bobcats' lead grew to 28-0 when Teague Phillips found the end zone from a yard out with 5:04 to play in the first half.
Tyler Clement scored on a one-yard run with 3:36 remaining in the third period to make the score 34-0.
Crisler passed four yards to Zach Carson for another Bobcat touchdown early in the fourth quarter. Hicks scored on a 29-yard run with 3:25 left in the game. Cason McQuay booted his fifth PAT for the Cats' final point.
Westside kicked a field goal as time expired to set the final score.
Wilcoxson led the Walnut Ridge ground attack with 130 yards on nine attempts. Phillips finished with 115 yards on eight carries. Crisler added 58 yards on four carries, and Hicks totaled 57 yards on six carries. Clement added 27 yards on five carries.
Crisler completed eight-of-nine pass attempts, for 112 yards.
Carson finished with a team-high four receptions, for 42 yards. Hicks caught two passes for 55 yards. Kyle Johnson had one reception for 13 yards, and Wilcoxson caught one pass for two yards.
Walnut Ridge outgained Westside in total yards 499-164, and had 26 first down to the Warriors' eight.
Rowdy Ditto led the Bobcats' defense with 12 tackles, while Hicks recorded 11 stops.
Walnut Ridge improved to 3-3 in 2A-3 conference play and 3-4 overall. The Bobcats have an open date this week. Their next game is at Cross County on Oct. 28.
