PROMOTING A SUCCESS STORY ~ Fran and Don Cavenaugh (left) visit with Fayth Hill Washington at a the Chamber of Commerce meeting held Thursday at the Hoxie Service Center. Washington, who lives in West Memphis, was one of the Hoxie 21 African-American students who successfully integrated the Hoxie School District in 1955. Washington addressed the Chamber about efforts to promote the Hoxie School desegregation story and to raise funds for a “Hoxie 21” monument on the state Capitol grounds, as well as one in Hoxie. Harvest providing mixed
results in Lawrence County

Lawrence County Extension Agent Herb Ginn reported on Tuesday that the county is nearing the completion of harvest on some crops.

new WRPD building

Progress on the new police department building was the focus of the Walnut Ridge City Council meeting on Oct. 11.

Rainwater honored for service to
LawCo. Conservation District

William I. "Bill" Rainwater was honored Friday at a drop-in reception for his years of service to the Lawrence County Conservation District. Rainwater has served on the board since 1979 and retired from the board in August.

possible ownership of rails

Members of the Walnut Ridge Airport Commission received a surprise announcement at the Oct. 10 meeting.

Strawberry man killed in accident

A Strawberry man was killed in a one-vehicle accident late Monday night on County Road 269 at Lynn, according to Cpl. Creston Hutton with the Arkansas State Police.
