WR uses running game
to whip Marked Tree
Zach Crisler, Teague Phillips and Eric Wilcoxson each ran for two touchdowns as the Walnut Ridge Bobcats literally ran over Marked Tree 51-20 for their second victory of the season Friday night at Marked Tree.
As a team, Walnut Ridge rolled up 518 rushing yards - their entire offensive output - and did not attempt a pass accumulating offensive yardage.
Crisler got things started with a pair of touchdowns in the first quarter. He scored on a 14-yard run with 4:46 remaining, and added a 10-yard run with 1:04 to play in the period. Phillips ran in the two-point conversion following the second score to give the Bobcats a 14-0 lead after one quarter.
Phillips scored on a 37-yard run and Cason McQuay added the PAT, as Walnut Ridge moved out to a 21-0 advantage early in the second quarter.
Jagger McCrary scored on a two-yard run to bring Marked Tree to within 21-6 with six minutes to play in the half.
Eric Wilcoxson found the end zone from six yards out with just over a minute to play until halftime. McQuay's PAT gave Walnut Ridge a 27-6 lead at the break.
The Indians opened the scoring in the second half on a six-yard run by Darius Ivy. The two-point conversion closed the gap to 27-14 with 6:12 to play the third quarter.
The Bobcats wasted little time in answering Marked Tree's score when Wilcoxson broke free for a 64-yard touchdown on Walnut Ridge's next possession. Crisler passed to Wilcoxson for the conversion and a 35-14 Bobcat lead.
Walnut Ridge struck with another big play when Phillips scored on 53-yard run with 2:49 remaining in the quarter. Wilcoxson ran in the two-point conversion, and the Cats carried a 43-14 lead into the final period.
Cole Hicks scored Walnut Ridge's last touchdown on a 10-yard run with 7:50 to play in the game. Tyler Clement ran in the conversion for the Bobcats' final points.
Marked Tree added a late touchdown to set the final score.
Phillips finished with 188 yards rushing on 13 carries, while Wilcoxson added 121 yards on 10 carries. Cole Hicks added 91 yards on 10 carries. Clement finished with 60 yards on six attempts, and Crisler had 58 yards on nine carries. The Bobcats averaged 10.8 yards per rush for the night.
On defense, Rowdy Ditto, Kyle Johnson and Hicks each recorded eight tackles, and Zach Carson had an interception.
Walnut Ridge improved to 2-3 in conference play and 2-4 overall. The Bobcats travel to Westside on Friday. Game time is 7 p.m.
