Hoxie falls to undefeated Bulldogs
Nathan Hibbard The Earle Bulldogs remained undefeated on the season with a 40-14 victory over the Hoxie Mustangs in senior high football action Friday at Earle. Hoxie jumped out to an early lead on Sebastian Irvin's six-yard run with 7:10 to play in the first quarter. Seth Hart booted the PAT for a 7-0 Mustang lead. Earle then rolled off 26 unanswered points before Irvin tossed a 25-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Mashburn with 2:56 remaining in the second period. Hart's PAT cut Earle's lead to 26-14 heading into halftime. The Bulldogs put the game away with a touchdown in the third quarter and another in the fourth. Irvin was Hoxie's leading rusher, gaining 111 yards on 26 carries. Devin Roberts had 36 yards on 10 carries. Mashburn carried five times for eight yards, and Colton Brown rushed once for five yards. Irvin was four-of-nine passing, for 93 yards. Tyler Hall had two receptions for 52 yards, and Mashburn caught two passes for 41 yards. Brown led the Mustangs' defensive effort with 23 tackles. Joe Gage recorded 21 tackles, and Dillon Cagle had 20. Hoxie dropped two 2-1 in 3A-3 conference play and 3-3 overall. The Mustangs play at Manila on Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
