school board seat
Voters in the Lawrence County School District elected a new board member in Tuesday's school election runoff. John Householder was elected over Billy Lee Baker in a runoff that had more district patrons cast ballots than in the Sept. 20 election.
The district is comprised of the Walnut Ridge and Black Rock schools, and both candidates live in Walnut Ridge.
The unofficial vote was as follows:
Baker 221 (44%).
Householder 279 (56%).
Four candidates initially sought the board seat in the Sept. 20 election, when 479 voters cast ballots in the district. Five hundred
votes were cast in the runoff.
Householder will occupy the board seat held by John Bland, who served on the board for 10 years and chose not to seek re-election.
Householder is certified examinations manager and NEA supervisor for the State Bank Department.
County Clerk Tina Stowers said the election process went well with all votes counted before 8:30 p.m. Approximately 200 of the 500 votes cast were made during early and absentee voting.
