Hoxie junior girls
win at Blazer Blast
The Hoxie junior high volleyball team competed in the NEA Jr. Blazer Blast at Valley View on Friday and Saturday. The junior Lady Mustangs won three matches in bracket play to win the Silver bracket tournament.
Hoxie's pool consisted of Piggott, Valley View, Marion and Wynne. The junior Lady Mustangs posted a 3-5 record in pool play to advance to the Silver bracket.
In bracket play, Hoxie defeated Bay 25-3, 25-8; Harrisburg 25-17, 25-18; and MacArthur 25-20, 25-18.
For the tournament, Krista Vankirk finished with 23 assists, while Zoe Willfond had 13 assists. Chasity Kingsland had 22 digs and 19 kills. Emily Hatfield had 27 digs and 12 kills.
Brooke Willfond had 25 digs and two kills. Sequoia Irvin was 31-of-33 serving, and had 20 digs and nine kills. Katelyn Jameson had three digs and two kills.
Hatfield, Kingsland, Irvin and VanKirk were named to the All-Tournament team.
The senior Lady Mustangs were swept by Piggott in 3A-Northeast conference action on Thursday at Piggott. Scores of the games were 14-25, 16-25, 7-25.
For Hoxie, Sarah Manis had 10 assists and a dig. Courtney Sears finished with seven kills, a block and a dig. Krista Coffell had four digs and a block. Maddison Woodard had four kills, two blocks and a dig, and Cayley Rosson had two kills and a block.
The Lady Mohawks also won a senior B game 25-22.
Piggott won the junior high match 25-16, 25-15.
VanKirk had four assists, and Hatfield had three kills. Irvin and Kingsland each had a kill.
Piggott won a junior B game 25-6, and a seventh-grade match 18-16, 20-17.
