The Salem Greyhounds put a damper on Walnut Ridge's homecoming festivities with a 32-22 victory over the Bobcats Friday night at Sexton Field.

Walnut Ridge scored first on Zach Crisler's 13-yard run with 7:53 to play in the first quarter. Tyler Clement ran in the two-point conversion to give the Bobcats an 8-0 lead.

Salem scored 20 unanswered points in the second quarter to take a 20-8 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Bobcats got back into the game in the third period when Eric Wilcoxson tackled a Greyhound player in the end zone for a safety, cutting Salem's lead to 20-10. Wilcoxson then hauled in 32-yard touchdown pass from Crisler to close the gap to 20-16 with three minutes remaining in the quarter.

Salem responded with a score late in the period to extend their advantage to 26-16 entering the fourth quarter.

Crisler gave the Bobcats hope when he found Kyle Johnson for a 10-yard scoring pass to bring Walnut Ridge to within 26-22 with 7:32 to play in the game. The Greyhounds, however, scored their final touchdown with 5:47 remaining to put the game away.

Crisler finished with 16 completions on 28 attempts, for 218 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed 20 times for 36 yards and a score.

Teague Phillips led the Bobcats on the ground with 79 yards on six carries. Wilcoxson gained 64 yards on 11 carries. Clement rushed four times for 10 yards.

Hunter Flippo and Johnson each had six receptions. Flippo had 88 receiving yards, and Johnson finished with 57 yards and a touchdown. Wilcoxson caught four passes for 73 yards and a touchdown.

Wilcoxson led the Bobcats' defensive effort with 11 tackles, including three for losses, and one forced fumble. Rowdy Ditto recorded eight tackles.

Walnut Ridge is now 1-4 overall and 1-3 in 2A-3 conference play. The Bobcats travel to Marked Tree this week for a 7 p.m. contest.
