Fall cleanups set
Lawrence County is completing its fall cleanup this week, and cleanups are set to begin next week in Walnut Ridge and Hoxie as part of a twin-cities cleanup program.
Class IV dumpsters are available for Lawrence County residents this week through Saturday, for non-household waste such as appliances and furniture.
No tires, shingles or building materials will be accepted.
Dumpsters will be located at the former Moore's Feed Store in downtown Black Rock and the Lawrence County shop on Highway 67, south of Hoxie.
The dumpsters will be available through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.
Fall cleanup for Walnut Ridge will begin Monday and continue through Oct. 21. Curbside pickup will be available during these special cleanup days.
Dumpsters will also be available at the city shop located on Southwest Fourth Street. The dumpsters are available for use on Wednesdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Items including tires, shingles and hazardous chemicals will not be accepted. Paint cans will be accepted, but must have the lid removed and must be dried up.
Fall cleanup in Hoxie will begin Tuesday and continue through Oct. 21. Items should be separated into metal, brush, wood and junk items and placed by the curb for pickup.
Items that cannot be picked up include tires, shingles, batteries, paint cans with liquid inside and hazardous chemical cans.
Pickup will begin on the northwest side of Midway Road and work southwest to the bypass, then cross over to the southeast side and work northwest to the Brewer addition. No return trips will be made.
Mayor Lanny Tinker said individuals are encouraged to use this cleanup as an opportunity to clean their own property, as well as assist elderly friends, neighbors and family members.
Individuals, school groups, civic organizations and church groups are also encouraged to participate by volunteering during the cleanup.
Anyone willing to volunteer or take on a cleanup project can contact Hoxie City Hall at 886-2742 or Walnut Ridge City Hall at 886-6638.
