HARVEST UNDERWAY ~ CAT Aviation owner Josh Blakeney looks at rice from this year's harvest on Black Adder Farms with Blake Cox of Cox Implement Company. Extension Agent Herb Ginn reported that the rice harvest is approximately 50 percent complete in Lawrence County, the corn crop is 80 percent harvested and the grain sorghum harvest is about 40 percent complete. The soybean harvest is barely underway with less than one percent completed, and the peanut harvest should begin the first week of October in some fields.

During a special meeting held Monday, members of the Walnut Ridge City Council approved the purchase of property for use by the Walnut Ridge Police Department.

Early voting slated for
school election runoff

Early and absentee voting will begin Tuesday prior to the Oct. 11 runoff to elect a new board member for the Lawrence County School District. The district is comprised of the Walnut Ridge and Black Rock schools.

5K raises over $2,000 for
NEA Humane Society

The Cavenaugh Thumperthon 5K not only raised over $2,000 for the Northeast Arkansas Humane Society, but it also was another event to help bring people to Lawrence County.

Work on rail-trail continues

The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department recently announced an additional $80,000 in funding to Lawrence County to continue the transformation of an abandoned rail spur into a walking and biking trail.
