School election vote heldPatrons of the Hoxie School District elected a new board member in Tuesday's election, but an Oct. 11 runoff will be needed to determine a winner of the board seat for the Lawrence County School District. In the Hoxie School election, patrons elected Jeff Worlow to a five-year term over Kenny Lewis. The unofficial vote was as follows: Jeff Worlow 148 (69.16 %) Kenny Lewis 66 (30.84 %) Worlow will replace Robert Pratt, who chose not to seek re-election. In the board race for the Lawrence County School District, comprised of Walnut Ridge and Black Rock campuses, the unofficial vote was as follows: Blake Cox 88 (18.37 %) Billy Lee Baker 151 (31.52 %) John Householder 203 (42.38 %) Cary G. Massey 37 (7.72 %) Since no candidate received a majority vote of over 50 percent, a runoff will be held between the two candidates, Baker and Householder, with the highest number of votes. None of the schools in the county sought a tax increase, and both Roger Helms at Hillcrest School and Aaron Murphy at Sloan-Hendrix School, were unopposed in their candidacy for re-election to their respective boards. County Clerk Tina Stowers said early voting in the runoff will begin Oct. 4.
