Lady Mustangs beat Bay
Hoxie's Lady Mustangs recorded a hard-earned victory over the Bay Lady Yellowjackets in senior high volleyball action Thursday at Bay.
Bay won the first two games 25-23, 25-18, but Hoxie stormed back to tie the match with a pair of wins 25-14, 25-14. The Lady Mustangs won the fifth game 15-9 to take the match.
Sarah Manis had 37 assists and a kill. Courtney Sears had eight kills and four digs. Krista Coffell had six digs and five kills. Maddison Woodard had two blocks and five kills. Cayley Rosson had six kills and a block. Grace Hall had two blocks and eight kills. Hali Pratt had seven digs, while Autumn Nelson and Alexia Crow had six digs apiece.
The Lady Mustangs improved to 3-4 overall and 1-4 in 3A-Northeast Conference play.
Conference rivals Piggott and Hoxie tangled in an exciting high school volleyball match on Sept. 6 at Hoxie's Hicks Gymnasium, with the Lady Mohawks escaping with a hard-earned victory in the five-game match.
Piggott won the first game 25-23, but the Lady Mustangs rebounded to take the next two games 26-24 and 25-22. Piggott evened the match in the fourth game 25-17, and edged Hoxie in the decisive fifth game 15-12.
For Hoxie, Manis had 36 assists and a kill. Sears had seven digs, nine kills and a block. Coffell had eight kills, and Woodard had seven kills. Rosson had eight kills and a block. Hall had nine kills and a block. Pratt had six digs. Crow and Nelson each had five digs.
Hoxie's junior high team outlasted Piggott in a three-game match 25-21, 24-26, 25-21.
Chasity Kingsland had seven kills and five digs. Sequoia Irvin had eight kills and seven digs. Emily Hatfield had three kills and three digs. Krista Vankirk had five assists and a kill, and Zoe Willfond had four assists.
