WR runs over Cedar Ridge
Walnut Ridge's offense proved to be more than Cedar Ridge could handle, as the Bobcats cruised to a 56-22 victory over the Timberwolves in senior high football Friday at Newark.
Payton Poole threw a pair of touchdown passes in the first quarter, a 38-yarder to Zach Crisler and a 10-yarder to Eric Huff, for Walnut Ridge's first two scores. Crisler returned a punt 67 yards for another score to give the Bobcats a 21-6 lead at the end of the opening period.
In the second quarter, Huff intercepted a Timberwolves option pitch and returned five yards for a touchdown. Crisler added a five-yard touchdown run later in the period. Poole passed to Zach Carson for the two-point conversion. Poole scored on a one-yard keeper, and later passed 44-yards to Eric Wilcoxson, as the Bobcats rang up 49 first-half points.
Hunter Yates scored on an 18-yard run in the third quarter, and Cason McQuay added his fifth PAT of the evening to close out the Bobcats' scoring. The second half was played with the mercy rule in effect.
Poole completed eight-of-17 passes, for 205 yards and three touchdowns.
Crisler had two receptions for 75 yards, and Carson caught two passes for 63 yards. Cole Hicks led Walnut Ridge in rushing, with 71 yards on two carries.
On defense, Rowdy Ditto and Jake Smith each recorded eight tackles.
Walnut Ridge improved to 1-1 on the season and 1-0 in 2A-3 conference play. The Bobcats will host East Poinsett County on Friday at Sexton Field. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
