Hoxie opens season with big win
Sebastian Irvin rushed for 216 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Hoxie Mustangs to a season-opening 45-8 rout of the Episcopal Collegiate Wildcats from Little Rock Friday night at Crider Field.
The Mustangs put the game away early when quarterback Sebastian Irvin scored on runs of 61 yards and two yards for a 12-0 Hoxie lead. Kenny Mashburn ran for a 12-yard score and Seth Hart added the extra point to give the Mustangs a 19-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
D.J. Kendrick returned a punt 68 yards for a touchdown with 9:55 to play in the second period. Hart's PAT put Hoxie ahead 26-0. Irvin found the end zone for the third time, with a seven-yard run, as the Mustangs carried a 32-0 lead into halftime.
Devin Roberts scored on a three-yard run to extend the Mustangs' lead to 38-0 with 10:02 to play in the third quarter. Cody Treadaway broke loose for a 33-yard touchdown with 1:56 to play in the period. Hart's PAT provided the Mustangs with their final point.
Episcopal Collegiate's only points came on a 73-yard pass play and the ensuing two-point conversion early in the fourth quarter.
Roberts finished with 46 yards on eight carries, and Treadaway added 43 yards on seven carries. Robert Ivy had one carry for 38 yards. Mashburn carried four times for 22 yards, and Colton Brown carried once for two yards.
Hoxie's defense held the Wildcats to four first downs and 90 yards of total offense.
