Rates set in Hoxie
Leslie L. Ginn
The Hoxie City Council passed the Water and Sewer Ordinance changing the city's rates on its third and final reading at a special meeting on Thursday. A copy of the ordinance and information on the specifics of the new rates can be viewed at Hoxie City Hall. Hoxie resident Danny Kopp III questioned Mayor Lanny Tinker on why it was necessary to increase rates. Tinker supported the rate increase by discussing the aging infrastructure and the need for solvency in the budget. He also cited the findings of two water studies conducted in 2010 for Hoxie by Arkansas Rural Water and Miller Newell Engineers. It was also mentioned that the city has found it necessary to rent a building to use as a temporary Water Department. The building was rented from Bob Tedder and is located on Highway 63B.
